DIY: Budget Lehengas (Part 2)

Go through Part 1 first so that this part makes more sense!

Center Image: Remember how I told you in Part 1 to avoid the handwork and go for brocades for a rich look

Remember the Velvet Patti I was talking about in Part 1??
Right Image: Look how the only work done is on the dupatta (cost saving!!)

Handwork Sample

Things to remember:
Take such pictures when you go talk to your tailor / Karagir. Words can be misinterpreted easily. Why take risk?

Stay in budget tips:
  • Heavy work sarees which your mom dint wear more than thrice can be put to good use. You can save on the fabric as well as the handwork.
  • Use your old dupatta's. If you already have a heavily worked dupatta, just go get a simple lehenga stiched.

  1. I love the black and gold lehenga - super dramatic! Too bad brides can't wear this colour... something similar in purple perhaps? Brocade is a life saver!

    1. Yes Era you can use your brocade sarees for a lehenga. Although a suggestion: You can buy brocade for as less as INR 130 per mtr. So incase your sarees are expensive, do not waste them. For a lehenga you need minimum 3 mtrs cloth. Tell me how it works for you.

  4. Hi Aditi..jst found your blog today. I'm curious to know how did your DIY lehenga work out!! I'm also getting married in Feb next year. I was thinking of getting my lehenga made by tailor instead of buying it ready-made!! budget constraints you know!! :(
