Store review: Ritu Kumar

Ok now my dad wanted to buy a phone and I reached the mall a little early so thought of utilizing the time for the blog. The Ritu Kumar store was right next to the Apple store and it had the 70% off banner. So I jumped in without even thinking twice.

There was just one rack full of salwar kameez, anarkalis, sarees and only 1 lehenga on sale that day. The lehenga was of those Gazi silk materials (which has a Bandhani like print). The whole set costed around 22K INR. The few sarees that were on sale were heavy and bride like but the colours mainly revolved around nude, black, ivory. Their prices ranged from 40K and above after discount. The anarkalis were in the range of 14K and above. But nothing from the sale rack quite interest me.

I knew where the fresh lehengas were placed on the house so thought of checking out that rack. I was so happy to see the collection. The work on the lehenga was so subtle - Absolutely no bling. It was kind of those antique copper work which looks super rich. Although I must warn you that you need best of your imagination to make a decision. At first even I thought the lehengas were looking dull and too toned down for a bride. Then, I said to myself, girl its Ritu Kumar you are talking about. She aint making such an obvious mistake. I tried to imagine the Lehenga on a bride with hair - make up - jewellery in place. I must say, for the price it was worth the steal. On further introspection, it struck me that the work which was there on the Lehenga will never look good on very bright colours.

What I didn't like:
All the fresh lehengas were the same with minor dissimilarity of colour or pattern. I would have loved to see some more variety. Although the advantage here is that if you are willing to go in for that kind of lehenga, you will have plenty options to chose from. You will not have that moment - I like the style/pattern, only if it was in XYZ colour. OR I would have loved this lehenga if the border was an inch less than what we have on this one.
I remember checking out the store during my wedding shopping last year. But I did the same mistake of thinking it is too dull for a bride.

I will definitely recommend brides to check out the fresh Lehenga with an open mind.

Marathi Weddings Tip: Something might just click if you sometimes think from the designers point of view. After all, they don't spend so much time and energy over nothing! :)
