Wedding wear OOTD: DIY Lehenga

A wedding can never fail to cheer me up! Moreover, I was stepping out of the house (not considering office of course!) after a month and a half. Unfortunately, I could only attend the reception for a few hours coz of my health problems. I planned to wear my engagement outfit (photos here). The planner in me made me check whether the top still fits me (Medicines you see! ;) ). Luckily it did! I wasnt too worried for the skirt coz I only wore it twice and it was so neatly wrapped that I refused to open the pack.

On the day of the wedding, I was busy with my make up (Yes! I am getting better at it) and hair. My in-laws were on their way and could reach home any moment. Damn it! This is not the time to practise eye make up. Albeit, I was very happy with the results. All I had to do is jump in the lehenga and wear my sparking shoes and go! But, the zip refused to agree. I asked the guy to help me and he put so much force that the lehenga was torn.

This is the original lehenga blouse!
Now, almost all of my trousseau outfits are at my mom's house (There will never be too much space in a girls closet!) and there was no body home as every body was at the wedding. I only had outfits which I planned to wear for this wedding. I chose to wear my DIY lehenga for the sangeet (which I couldnt attend). But it was too simple for a close cousin's wedding. Plus, I couldnt wear that sleeveless blouse in order to avoid exposing the scar from the operation. Having nothing else to wear, I simply tried it on with the engagement outfit top (which I was already wearing). And voila! It matched!! Thanks to the blingy top, it didnt look simple at all.

A closer look at the kali's
Actual price:
Lehenga Fabric + Lining: INR 1000
Lehenga Stiching: INR 1700 (including the velvet patti with laces at the lehenga bottom)
Top: Reused from engagement lehenga
Crushed Purple Dupatta: INR 300 from Shoppers stop.

Things to remember:
While designing a DIY lehenga, scan your wardrobe and find for things you can reuse. I knew I could tone-up the outfit with a heavy blouse but never thought of using the one in my closet. This lehenga looks very different with a plain blouse.
