All you need to know about the mind freezing Chadar Trek. Here are some key takeaways from my experience on walking on the frozen river.

Something's can't change: In an
era where you can control almost everything on a remote, Himalayan climate is
something which is beyond anybody's control. Book your trek accepting this risk
to avoid any disappointment. We were amongst some last batches to complete the
trek in 2015 as all batches starting 17 Jan were not allowed to go further
because of a landslide.

Pack light! Read this dedicated
post on the essentials for Chadar - "ideal packing list for Chadar".

Porter issues: After reading the
packing list, honestly decide if you will be able to carry your bag throughout
the trek. I had booked a porter cause I knew I wouldn't enjoy the trek with a
heavy bag. Arranging for a porter in the middle of the trek is not only difficult
for the organisers but also more expensive. I'm not hinting that you can't
enjoy the trek without a porter. Everyone with a bag in my batch could
successfully complete the trek.

Buy most of your gear from Leh
market - The gears are cheaper and more effective there!

Cold is a state of mind: I can't thank Neelima
(travelwithneelima.com) enough for writing this line which sailed me through
the harsh cold. My 2 cents: After -5 to -10 deg C it all feels the same. It
gets tougher when it is windy. A good quality jacket should solve your problem.

You cannot get away from falling
on the Chadar. My first fall: All exhausted from walking ~6 hours, I took my nth
5 sec break. It was getting dark and colder. I was comfortably standing and all
I did was cough. The next thing I know is I was lying flat on the ground. While laughing my
abs felt like I had done 50 suryanamaskars.

Watch your feet: Do not pick your
feet up from the ground. Just slide over the ice at almost all times. Only on
crushed ice which is about a feet deep, sliding is not possible.

Falling is fun (**Conditions
apply): The dialect / tone of the porters/trainers is different. In a stressful
environment like slightly weak Chadar, the prudent trainers are more concerned
than you are. Hold your breath for a sec and carefully listen to what he is
saying - then act! Falling is fun only if you don't fall in freezing water.

Click smart: It is often seen that
people couldn't capture/enjoy the beauty of Chadar as it is difficult to even
look up while they are constantly walking. AJ (one of my batch mates) taught me
a trick - Look back and front in every 15-20 mins. You might not be able to
digitally capture the beauty every 15 mins but you surely will take back fond
memories. Also, the woollen gloves mentioned in the "ideal packing list forChadar" gave AJ the liberty to click smartly.

At the risk of being hated by
Photographers I would suggest to keep your heavy DSLR's at home. With your
expertise and the most beautiful terrain, I'm sure you will not be disappointed
with the quality of pictures in your point and shoot camera. Moreover, I've
often seen DSLR's being treated like a baby. How would you feel if your baby
falls in freezing water? If you are still not convinced, I suggest you make a special
batch of fellow photographers and ask organizers to increase the number of days
for your batch so that each day is less hectic. Also, with your lenses,
tripods, etc - you definitely need a porter. Not only because of the extra
weight, but also to have your hands free.

After we successfully completed the Chadar trek in Jan 2015, everyone (people from other batches too!) echoed on the need to pack light on this trek. Many of us didnt even use half the things they carried all the way. One also needs to understand that we were lucky that we didnt have to use most items but had there been an emergency, we would definitely need most of the stuff. I've tried to compile an ideal packing list - nothing more/less. With the following things in your backpack, you needn't worry about anything!!

Packing List:

You need 2 Sets of the following:While trekking you only need one set. The extra set is for an event there is an emergency if you get wet. I didnt fall in water but I used this extra set at night to be more hygienic (you sweat while you walk!)

Thermal top and bottom

Full sleeves T-shirt

Quick dry (gym) pants

Heavy duty winter wear

Good quality sweater/fleece
jacket

Down jacket/Windproof jacket

Rainproof jacket and Pants

Woollen gloves/liner

Windproof gloves

Thick/Towel Socks: 3 pairs

Thermal/woollen socks: 2-3 pairs

Woollen Cap & Neck
warmer/Buff OR Balaclava

Gum Boots: The only footwear you
need for Chadar is gum boots. Period! Even after reading this on
TravelwithNeelima.com I bought a Forclaz 500 shoes as I got them for Rs 1800
(Originally Rs 4999). The shoes are awesome but I didn't wear them at all for
this trek.

Polarized sunglasses

Thermal Flask

Toilet paper roll

Soft Face tissues

Food: Avoid taking too much food with
you. Talk with your organisers on this. I wasn't expecting hot lunch every day
and carried so many things which eventually went to the porters. Thanks to our
organisers - I never felt hungry. Just take the following:

250 gms dry fruits

Energy bars: 4-5

Biscuits: 2-4 small packs

Personal medicines, Eno packs:
2-3, Electrol: 2-3, small moov

Sunscreen

Camera & power banks/extra
batteries

Trekking pole & Crampons
(optional)

Hand/Toe/Body Warmers (optional):
These are great! But many in my batch could easily survive without these. But
it can be very useful in case of emergencies. One of my friends who got
freezing water in his boots used these to get better relief. There was a porter
who felt very sick in the night (Couldn't even get up). I gave him 2 body
warmers and I was told he felt better. I feel 4 mini and 2 large warmers per
person for emergency. I distributed the left over warmers to the girls I met on
my way back.

Extra small bag/big waist pouch
(Optional) - In case you are using a porter you will need a small bag to carry some dryfruits, camera, tissues, water, etc.

Extra sleeping bag (optional): I
carried a good quality Fleece sleeping bag specially made for sub zero
temperatures. I used it a lot. But you can do away with it. You will feel cold
anyway (Remember, after -5,-10 its all the same! ;)). Also cold is a state of
mind - One of our batch mates didn't even use 1 sleeping bag (provided by
organizers)

Other Packing Tips:

Buy most of your gear from Leh
market - The stuff from there is cheaper and definitely more effective! For Eg:

Woollen gloves: You get fundoo
adjustable gloves in Leh market which is basically like a bike glove (with
fingers exposed). Only this gloves have adjustable cover for your fingers. The
wool used was 100% effective for temperatures in Chadar. More importantly,
these gloves enables you to quickly click photos when desired.

Thick socks: I got these high
rise thick/towel socks for Rs 100/pair. I used them more than the 100% merino
wool socks I ordered from Ludhiana. FYI high risk woollen socks were for Rs
120/pair (much cheaper than what I paid)!

Instead of carrying a trekking
pole from Mumbai, I bought it from Leh for 400 Rs.

You can keep one bag in Leh. Your
mobile chargers, extra pair of travel clothes/Shoes,slippers (Pl keep one! It's
painful to wear your shoes every time you wanna pee) Towel, return tickets
copy, etc can stay back in Leh. Check with your organisers in advance.

PS: This is my final post on my recent trekking stint. Apologies to readers who come here expecting wedding posts. But I thought this is a different trek than usual and the experience was worth sharing.
I haven't trekked a lot in the last 3-4 years which is why
my family was a little apprehensive about sending me alone in such extreme

this batch. But I was determined (Dil ye ziddi hai!). I somehow convinced the guy to just meet the organisers so
that he is comfortable. After an embarrassing Q&A's with Nilesh (Founder of TMI), he was sold! Sometimes I feel so damn lucky to have such good

I went on the trek alone and came back making friends for
life. We walked during the day time singing songs, climbing small hills/rocks,
slipping on the ice, enjoying hot lunch, playing ice hockey (with our trekking
pole), teasing each other (including the porters, leaders and cooks), seldom
sun bathing with full clothes on and being surrounded by beautiful mountains in
sub zero temperatures while doing all this.

Highlights:

Leh (Day 1): "Bahar ka
Tapman -10 deg C hai" will make you go all woooooo. Any water left exposed
is converted to ice even the water dropped on the bathroom floor (You can start
your slipping on ice practise from Leh Bathroom!!)

Tilat Sum Do (Day 2): Practise
walk on Chadar - I normally cannot hold a ice cube for more than 10 secs. So you can imagine how thrilling it was to be able to walk on ice for the first time.

Singra Kogma (Day 3): We had to
climb/crawl often as the Chadar was weakest in this patch (Everyday is
different so it is not necessary that your toughest patch will be the same). It
gently started snowing while we were gazing at the stars in the night - A
magical moment I can never forget.

Tibb (Day 4): By this day you
start to enjoy walking on ice but this was my least favourite place as it was
the coldest and most crowded campsite.

Naerak (Day 5): You get to see
the famous frozen waterfall on your way. There is a sense of accomplishment
once you reach Naerak. The homestay had a heater which was luxury for us.

Tibb (Day 6): You start your
return journey. By now you become a pro in walking on the Chadar. You can
adjust your speed. Start playing ice hockey with your trekking poles, etc.

Singra Kogma (Day 7): After we
reached the campsite, 5 of us joined Preet - Our leader who took us on a
mountain with a lovely view. This being the last night on Chadar will always
remain special. We danced, laughed out loud, Talked for hours, relaxed and
enjoyed the cold knowing you will never ever get to enjoy "this" kind
of fun again!

Leh (Day 8): We kept walking for
hours and all of a sudden we were asked to climb the mountain to get on the
road. That's when you realise you are going to miss the Chadar. After walking
for ~5 more kms, we had to wait for our vehicle for 3 hours on the dusty-windy-cold
road. In the end, the vehicle which was waiting for us at start of the road
took us to Leh. We literally waited for nobody.

Mumbai (Day 9): On an average, a
person falls ~2-3 times a day (Special mention to Nimish Kulkarni who was a
first time trekker and didn't fall even once). I fell thrice in the whole trek
(I can now give a Crash course for walking on the Chadar). But I reached Delhi
airport, and tripped so bad that I broke my phone, the contents of my bag ware
scattered on the floor, my small backpack took a somersault and landed half a
km away. It took 4 aunties and at least
50 stares to get the shabby me back on my seat.

Chadar is an experience in itself which is really difficult
to put in words. I can only say that I now know how it would feel to sit in a
refrigerator for days!!
Needless to say a "Shela / Shawl" is really important for maharashtrian brides as it is seen in most bridal pictures. Dont believe me?? Check wedding Outfit 1 & Outfit 2 yourself! There isnt one pic without the shela. This explains why I got multiple requests for a post on this topic. Shela in simple words is a stole/dupatta for a maharashtrian bride literally used to tie-the-knot.

Things to remember:

Consider buying a transparent shela (intead of opaque): You want to show off the beautiful designer blouse right? I bought an opaque shela which honestly didn't look good on my final outfit. It was too late to change as I realised this on my wedding day. Let me warn you, transparent shelas look too simple/light for a bride. But try to visualise it with the whole outfit.

Avoid gold shades: Gold shelas are easily available, cheap and the most common myth about gold shelas - it goes with any saree colour. I find gold shelas too tacky. Even the see thru ones! As it is most Maharashtrian brides wear a yellow saree and enough gold jewellery. A gold shela on top of it will then seamlessly merge the bride with the wedding decoration.

Play with colours: Red, Maroon, Hot pink, Leaf Green will look fresh! I should have bought a red transparent shela matching the delicate resham work on my yellow saree. Instead I tried to match the shela with the heavy purple border and unfortunately the blouse was of the same colour.

Keep it simple if your saree is heavy. Although, heavy dupattas instantly turn a simple saree into bridal. I have seen brides not wanting to spend too much on the yellow saree as it can barely be used again (you absolutely make sense girl! I have only seen my yellow saree once in 2 years). If you go for a heavy bridal dupatta, it can be reused post wedding on a plain dress.

Give a thought on the cloth material: It is difficult to tie a knot with some synthetic materials. A loose knot is the last thing you want right!

How to drape a Shela:

Prioritise on what should be the focus on Eg: blouse, pallu, saree draping style, shela, etc. Since I didnt like my Shela that much, I neatly folded it and placed it on one shoulder (just for the sake of it). Also it is easily removable then. This style is not recommended for brides wearing 9 yard saree (most styles).

My SIL wore a contrast see thru shela and she opened it up on both her shoulders. This draping style is a strict no-no for opaque/thick Shawls & non skinny brides (unless you want the shela to be the focus). Recommended for a 9 yard saree.

If your dupatta has a Jardosi, kundan, etc border, you may want to pleat the border up and put it on one shoulder. The other end can neatly be tucked in at the waist. You can enjoy being a handsfree bride!

I have rarely seen a maharashtrian bride covering her head. In case you want to go for it, choose a light weight flowy dupatta. A contrast border at dupatta's back will look regal.

Marathi Weddings tip: I feel you should only wear your Shela during the pheras when it is really required. Just do away with it for the rest of the times if possible. One less responsibility is a lot of relief on your wedding day. Only dont push your family too hard leading to a controversial topic. You will definitely have bigger issues like the guest list to fight about. ;P

I bought my shela for less than 800 bucks from "Gore and Company" - Shanipar Chowk, Pune.

Marathi Weddings tip: The most important thing to remember in a DIY saree is the colour. If you are able to crack that right colour, everything else is easy to manage. This saree in Part one is very simple and easy to do. Everyone liked it so much because of the colour combination. You will have to make a lot of on the spot decisions in limited lighting available. Also, you will rarely get an exact shade as seen in your mobile picture.

PS:I have 3 more DIY sarees. Out of which I designed one for my first Diwali post marriage. Do you want to see how those turned out to be?
Neeta Lulla's Mehendi Lehengas - I like!! Esha's blue dupatta could have been a different blue though or green may be. I didnt understand why they had similar outfits for the same functions. As a bride, would you like to wear the same outfit as your sister?

Ahana's floral tiara idea gets a thumbs up. Although it could have been much better than this. I once had made a similar orchid tiara for Hawaiian day in college which looked better than this.

Ankita is a Beauty Blogger (Corallista.com) who recently got married. She did a series of Indian Bridal Makeup tutorials which I feel young bride-to-be's must watch even if you're not planning to do it yourself.

I have been watching her videos over-n-over again for quite some time. Now, I may not use half the products she uses but I learnt to select colour combinations and polished my make up application techniques. I must say (based on the recent compliments) that I am making extraordinary progress. I did my own makeup on all days at a friends wedding this December.

There are many tutorials in the blogosphere but I could really understand make up application from Ankita for 3 reasons:
1) All the products she uses are familiar and easily available in Indian market.
2) She starts from the scratch and you can look at the vivid before-after difference which makes the video more realistic.
3) She used to stay in Mumbai and has oily skin. So got so many tips from her.

Marathi Weddings tip:
Invest in a small brush set from Vega and a foundation brush and try to use whatever makeup you own already until you get a proper hang of it. These brushes mentioned in the video are very expensive and will only be useful if you know the right technique.

PS: There are many more videos where she has given tips to hide dark circles in detail. You may find all her videos here: Youtube Link

The Guy: "Mom, Aditi is wearing a green saree!!!" (read: NOT the yellow one for which she made us run into so many stores. In reality, we only went to 3 stores in one day and I bought this)

His Mom: WHAT!! How can she wear a green saree? It's not allowed!

When I saw the guy at the reception, I jokingly told him that I changed my mind about wearing a yellow saree. The nervous bride in me was trying to be funny. Wrong timing. The even more nervous groom took it seriously and told his mom about it! His mom is the super coolest maharashtrian mom I have come across so far. Even she was not ok with me not wearing yellow during the pheras. So basically, the yellow saree is a big deal in our weddings!

The whole saree is not visible coz of the dozen of things I'm carrying - garland, shela, oti, a sharp object, flower bouquet (I absolutely have no clue why they made me hold that bouquet all through the rituals!). My mom and MIL were busy talking to the guests. We were only surrounded by my cousins and close friends who were equally unaware like both of us. So keep in mind to be as comfortable as possible.

A closer look at the saree details:
It is a orangish-yellow saree in south silk with a purple border. The best part about this saree is the mild red resham work all throughout which gives the saree a rich look. The purple saree border is a big border which usually does not look flattering on petite figures. Although, this had a big border only on one side which gave it that bridal look. The other side had a medium border with less intricate work as that side is barely seen. Remember this not only looks good but also makes the saree cost effective.

Talking about the price, we had no definite budget for this saree as my mom is emotionally attached to these things. Although this saree is the cheapest saree I bought for my wedding. I got it from Vama, Pune. Store review here.

Marathi Weddings Tip: I have mentioned about a bride/groom supposed to keep a sharp object with them all through the wedding in this post explaining the rituals. I followed it like a child. I kept that nail cutter wrapped in a hanky for so long that one of my aunts had to take it away from me during mangalashtakas on photographer's request. Yes! at least somebody from the overpowering women gang (mentioned in this post) had mercy. That hanky used to wipe the chandan-tirtha-tika-etc definitely does not look good in any bride's hand who strives hard for months to look perfect!! After one year of marriage and many more pooja's, I now understand it is not mandatory to follow all this mundane rituals. The last wedding I attended, the bride was told not to keep any sharp objects with her. So it is all relative - choose what suits you best.

On a beautiful December morning last year, excitement in the Pednekar house was at its peak. We were about 60-70 of us under one roof having tea n breakfast together. It seemed to be a big family get together! I was chilling around with my cousins who were pampering me just too much. Every one was concerned about what I was eating, if I was too tired coz of last night's crazy dancing, if I slept well. I can never forget the way they smiled at me when walked past them. Now who doesn't like that?!? No wonder every girl wants to be a bride forever. When else will you get that queen-like feel!!!
All this pampering passed by in a blur. All of a sudden it was time for me to get ready. Most Maharashtrian brides are supposed to wear a yellow saree during the pheras. I decided to wear it at the venue coz I didn't want to spoil the crease while travelling. But a bride has to look like a bride when she leaves her home. So I wore this dark green silk saree with real jari from Vama. It is my most favorite saree from my trousseau.
We left bang on time on a Sunday afternoon which supposed to be significantly traffic free. Although we witnessed a jam on the main highway coz of an accident. I still remember how people (especially children) stuck in traffic were looking at me and then telling everybody else in their car about the bride-next-car!! I can never forget the look on their faces trying to search me. I was of course enjoying the attention and maintained my calm coz we still managed to reach on time for the Muhurat. But all the other cars who left just 5-10 mins after us were stuck. My maternal grandma missed half my wedding coz of heavy traffic. The grooms family hurried to the venue coz they were behind schedule just to find out that they were the first ones to reach. The guy never fails jokes about no one being there to welcome the grooms family and the Pednekar's were late on the only day they were supposed to reach on time.

See that Potli in my hand?? Thats the oti holder. Oti consists of a coconut, rice grains and fruits, etc which the bride has to carry.

Marathi Weddings tip:
You need not listen to everything the women in your family say. I like a dumb girl religiously followed EVERYTHING that was told to me by ANYBODY. Some people tend to go overboard and you should know where to stop. For e.g.: There is no need for me to have that "shela" (see that purple dupatta piece?) on me when I was leaving. Now that I am married, I understand it doesnt have such a huge significance and in this era where we let go so many things, a shela could definitely been avoided. In earlier days, the intention was to keep everything the bride will need with her and hence she was supposed to wear a shela while leaving. As long as you dont forget it at home, I am sure you can do without it.
I attended an engagement function a few days back which I was looking forward for a long time. This friend of mine is a regular blog reader and we have had long long chats on her enngagement planning. I could see happiness on her parents faces all throughout. The evening was filled with stories, laughter, music, dancing, happiness and a few happy tears.
As directed by the bride-to-be, I did not even think of wearing a saree coz she wanted me to dance freely. So I chose to wear a phulkari skirt in turquoise blue and green, paired up with a green raw silk top and a blue chiffon dupatta. I wore a long diamond earings from my wedding and since the earings are long, I went bare neck.

With the pretty bride

This Bride-to-be is a planner at heart and she works very hard to make things perfect. She arranged almost everything on her own and was well prepared like a 10th Std student for his board exams. I could see small details taken care of with such elegance. Be it the gift for the groom, the floral arrangements or her saree draping.
Soon after the guests arrived, the sister-of-the-bride hosted the function and asked the bride and groom a few questions about each other. The bindaas bride shared their 7 year long love story to their close family and friends. The mother-of-the-bride had moist eyes when she talked about her daughter. After the cake cutting and ring ceremony, everyone hit the dance floor. It was the most well planned ceremony I have attended lately.

Things to Remember: There is so much you can achieve by keeping things simple. It doesn't take too much efforts for a candid interview of the bride-groom. But it can be a HUGE change from the regular cake-rings-dance-dinner engagement party. Here, both the parents got to know the details of their children's love story. It was a simple engagement with an extraordinary impact on the guests.

How many weddings did you attend this wedding season? What was the best amongst all of them?

I find it strange that I love applying Mehendi but don't like it on my hands so much that I wouldn't mind being a mehendiless-bride! All my aunts gasped in horror when I said why do we need to put Mehendi for an engagement? I should have recorded their reaction! They planned to have a proper mehendi function for an ENGAGEMENT. I offered to have a function only for them but they didn't take no for an answer. Me, a poor first time bride started doubting if I was doing a right thing. They talked into me and made me put a full bridal mehendi (upto elbow) for an engagement where all I wanted was french nails. I surrendered on one condition of sparing my legs from the mehendi. They cribbed for some time and then got busy with their mehendi (thankfully!).

Initially, I was having a good time but every passing hour was being difficult. It took 3-4 hours only for the hands. Surprisingly, they say wedding mehendi with dulha (groom), dulhan (bride), baraat, palki, etc etc is EVEN more intricate. By now I was sure about not having any of this for the wedding. It didn't get over with the painful 3 hours. Later, I had to then save the mehendi from getting smudged. The only good memory of that evening is my father feeding me after ages and a friend who couldn't attend the wedding/engagement had come to meet me.

During Wedding..

Mehendi started immediately after haldi. As mentioned in the pre wedding rituals post, I was already wearing the green chuda by now which means, I could only start the mehendi 3 inches above the wrist line (half as long as the engagement). This time, there were even more ladies under the roof. Some of them felt bad for me thinking I would be upset over not getting a baraat on my hands. Little did they know that the chuda was a blessing in disguise for me!

On my legs, I only wanted a circle on the topside of the foot just for the sake of it. The mehendi artist with full support of the ladies tried to convince me to get proper mehendi at least on the legs. But the bridezilla in me didn't budge. I just followed my gut and I am so so so so happy that I did! The minimal mehendi on legs actually looked good. At least I was happy with it.

Things to remember: I had put mehendi after about 10 years. Next morning on the engagement day, after cleaning up the dried mehendi (Had a tough time!), I observed that my hands were drying out terribly. I had to apply almond oil and then used hand cream all throughout. This resulted into uneven discolouration. So even if you are not a mehendi fan, try it a few months before the wedding to see if it suits you.

I have got numerous queries for lace and cloth market in Mumbai. I always knew that you get all kinds of lace & latkans in Bhuleshwar. Although, I always tried to avoid its narrow by lanes. But like a good bridal blogger, I decided to be the guinea pig and get as much information for the readers.

So, I have had frequent visits to the Mangaldas Market in the last few <strike>weeks</strike> months, only to realise what a huge mistake I did by not going there during my wedding. Oh! it has this high-on-spirits aura which will take your wedding shopping excitement to another level. You get EVERYTHING you need for your wedding there. What I like about the place is that it offers products for all budgets : you need pure Italian crepe - you will get it and if you want artificial velvet, you will get that too. Don't be surprised to see young to be brides sweating out in the Mumbai heat with their mothers trying to bargain in their tuti-puthi Hindi.

What you should look for:

What I did: Every shop I went to, I bought whatever I like without comparing the prices as you tend to get lost owing to the variety one got to chose from. During my first visit, I tried to compare the prices, but it is difficult to remember so many prices and quality (unless you write it down).

Quick tip: The lace market near Zaveri bazaar is more expensive than the lace market in Bhuleshwar. Although, Zaveri bazaar is a lot hassle free and you will not have to walk too much as it is almost adjoining the Mangaldas cloth market.

So wear your sport shoes, eat a heavy parantha at Bhagat Tarachand and burn away your calories running from one shop to another. This is a snapshot from google maps which I made to help you find the even cheaper lace galli. I may not be able to direct you to the exact stores I visited but the people there are so helpful that I am sure you will find your way.
Marathi Weddings tip:

Buy artificial raw silk material in bright colours for as less as 80 Rs per mtr and get your cushion covers stitched for a mehendi decor in any colour you want.

Say no to the OTT readymade thalis available in market. Make your pooja thalis at home. There are so many little things available that all you have to do is glue it all together to have a unique wedding items.

Things to Remember:

Visit there once, just to judge the availability. Try not to buy anything even if you are too tempted. For the next time, plan before you step out of the house. It is so difficult to stick to that plan as every time you see something better, you divert from your base. But having no plan will leave you even more confused. Believe me, my second visit to the market was much more fruitful than the first.

If you are not comfortable with a hair curler like I am then skip it. These braids look good as it is too!
This looks slightly difficult but once you get the braid right, it is a cake walk thereafter. I still didn't get a hang of it but love the finish look so much that I will keep trying.
Marathi Weddings Tip:
Do not try to be overly perfect. I dunno if its just me or all amateurs feel that way but I used to be too critical about one/two messy strands in my hair. For e.g.: When I used to do a simple poof on my crown, I never got a smooth finish. So no special hair grooming happened to me ever! Wear whatever style but with confidence and trust me NO BODY except you will notice that tiny strand of hair peeping out!

A wedding can never fail to cheer me up! Moreover, I was stepping out of the house (not considering office of course!) after a month and a half. Unfortunately, I could only attend the reception for a few hours coz of my health problems. I planned to wear my engagement outfit (photos here). The planner in me made me check whether the top still fits me (Medicines you see! ;) ). Luckily it did! I wasnt too worried for the skirt coz I only wore it twice and it was so neatly wrapped that I refused to open the pack.

On the day of the wedding, I was busy with my make up (Yes! I am getting better at it) and hair. My in-laws were on their way and could reach home any moment. Damn it! This is not the time to practise eye make up. Albeit, I was very happy with the results. All I had to do is jump in the lehenga and wear my sparking shoes and go! But, the zip refused to agree. I asked the guy to help me and he put so much force that the lehenga was torn.

This is the original lehenga blouse!

Now, almost all of my trousseau outfits are at my mom's house (There will never be too much space in a girls closet!) and there was no body home as every body was at the wedding. I only had outfits which I planned to wear for this wedding. I chose to wear my DIY lehenga for the sangeet (which I couldnt attend). But it was too simple for a close cousin's wedding. Plus, I couldnt wear that sleeveless blouse in order to avoid exposing the scar from the operation. Having nothing else to wear, I simply tried it on with the engagement outfit top (which I was already wearing). And voila! It matched!! Thanks to the blingy top, it didnt look simple at all.
Things to remember:
While designing a DIY lehenga, scan your wardrobe and find for things you can reuse. I knew I could tone-up the outfit with a heavy blouse but never thought of using the one in my closet. This lehenga looks very different with a plain blouse.
